The housing market is still in the dumps, the Office market is stagnant and the number of new building permits are issued near the record low.
So why the construction industry is one of New Jersey’s strongest employment sectors in 2011?
2.6 percent increase in November, construction work through jobs, increase 3300 is the second largest among the main sectors of State jobs-trailing only trade, transportation and utilities, the increase of approximately 3.2 percent.
And New Jersey construction jobs spike easily beat the nation, who grew up a little half-percent in 2011.
Most of the work, however, seems to be added in places other than North Jersey. The image is likely driven by apartment buildings and a bit of a large, non-residential projects, most notably Revel resort and casino in Atlantic City and New Jersey toll road widening and the Garden State Parkway.
